Unifier Festival and Laudable Productions team up at the crossroads of world music, where musicians from three continents honor their ancestors by modernizing ancient traditions. Start your Halloween weekend on the dance floor at the Shea Theater Arts Center with Afro-Colombian hip-hop, Moroccan trance, and nuAncestral music. From their village of San Basilio de Palenque in Colombia — the first free black community in the Americas — Kombilesa Mi refreshes ancient Afro-Latin rhythms from Angola by fusing their folk tradition with hip-hop. Big ups to Dean's Beans Organic Coffee Company for helping to under-write this artist from the Coffee lands! New York City’s Innov Gnawa secularizes Morocco’s ritual trance music under the guidance of Hassan Ben Jaafar, a Maȃlem master transplanted from ancient Fez, so that a broader audience can experience its powerful enchantment. To round out the night, Unifier Festival fave Incus will take the serious dancers into the witching hour for a high energy closing set. The band’s songs are inspired by countless fire circle ceremonies and an emergent new culture of honoring the sacred. We will conclude with a set of mystical dancing with DJ Journey Weaver (11:30PM).
