Echoes of Harlem are bringing 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐞 𝐍’𝐃𝐢𝐚𝐲𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐀𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐒𝐢𝐡𝐥𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐠 to Melbourne for a once-in-a-lifetime (well once in ten years!) Artist in Residence program as part of our 10th anniversary. We want to share this amazing opportunity with YOU - our local community – so keep Melbourne Cup weekend free and join us as we celebrate the Harlem Roots of lindy hop with two of the best dancers, teachers and swing dance historians in the world. Kick-off with a Saturday night party on 3 November to welcome Marie and Anders to Melbourne, then it’s all about the learnz with an all-levels workshop on Sunday 4 November. Inspired by the 𝐇𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐞𝐦 𝐑𝐨𝐨𝐭𝐬 stream at Herrang Dance Camp, the workshop will focus on the history, origins and influences of vernacular Harlem swing dances. Learn more about the roots and rhythmical language of the Lindy Hop, its connection to the music, and other popular dances from the 1920s to the 1950s. You are technically proficient, comfortable with improvisation, musicality and social dance regularly. You are comfortable dancing at a range of tempos (partnered and solo), and have a good understanding of Lindy Hop, Charleston and Solo Jazz vernacular.
