ABOUT THE TRAINING...
Last year, the Rodchata Training Group made a grand entrance into the bachata dance scene in Berkeley, Alameda, San Jose, Sacramento & Fresno. This unique training program received an overwhelmingly positive response from bachateros of all levels.
Unlike many other dance courses available today, the Rodchata Training Group focuses intensely on training rather than choreography. This hands-on approach sets it apart as one of the best training programs out there, led by none other than Rodchata, a world-renowned bachata teacher who has taught in over 352 cities in the world.
Rodchata's training program offers an unparalleled opportunity for bachata dancers to sharpen their skills and improve their technique. With limited time, each session is carefully designed to provide a comprehensive and immersive training experience.
Whether you're a beginner or an advanced dancer, Rodchata tailors his instruction to meet the diverse needs of all participants.
The launch of the Rodchata Training Group has created a buzz in the bachata community. Dancers in several cities of California, and now in Honoulu, have access to a high-quality training program that focuses solely on honing their skills.
If you're looking to take your bachata dancing to the next level, the Rodchata Training Group is the perfect opportunity to learn from one of the legendary bachata coach in the industry.
STUDENT REVIEWS & TESTIMONIES...
My first time meeting Rodney was at his workshop at the Vegas Bachata festival 2022. His teaching style was unique and not rushed. His ability to break down the patterns and footwork was a breath of fresh air with his calm demeanor . So when he was starting a bachata workshop weekly series in my area. It was perfect timing to take part in his workshop series. This allowed me to learn more of traditional bachata. Again his teaching style was not rushed but informative in breaking down the footwork and techniques. Another thing I want to mention is he really cares and wants you to learn. His classes are alot fun. - Sonya Nunes (East Bay)
As a new dancer (never dance any kind of music before) this has been a great experience to me, I wanted to try new things to push my self out of my confort zone, and learning to dance is one on my bucket list. I found in Rodney’s classes the best support I was looking to start up in the dancing world, having tried in a couple other dance studios for few classes I was getting frustrated but once I joined Rodchata every thing started falling in place, I’m not gonna lie I still struggle a lot but the way Rodney teach and builds the adequate environment for all levels of dancer is unique. He doesn’t care to breakdown his footwork to us as many times as needed, and something that I will always remember from him is the remarkable advise to improve and master the basics. I’m still two left footed but this journey is just starting for me and Rodney’s heritage is setting up the foundation to build the dancer I want to be. Thanks Rodney and best of luck in your future projects. - Israel Estrada (San Francisco)
I found Rodney in 2016 after moving to California from the East Coast where I thought I had already learned to dance “bachata.” I had studied the at-the-time popular “moderna” style in various clubs and classes, and frankly didn’t really understand why people would dance “Dominican” bachata with its twangy old music and fast feet. But, I also thought, I should probably just try it. The first time I dropped into one of Rodney’s traditional bachata classes, given my years of bachata background, I was sure I knew what I was doing. Lo and behold: I did not. Never had I ever heard of a box step, and over several months, I learned a whole new type of body movement that involved quads, foot placement, lower back, and core—all to create the proper hip movement that more “evolved” styles of bachata lack. As a white girl with a ballet background who lacks curves in the hip area, this style of bachata did not come easily or quickly to me. But Rodney broke down the movement in great detail with many different exercises for all students, while also teaching a set of footwork steps that we practiced in every class. Leg weights were required, social dancing was emphasized, and Rodney introduced his class to other great dancers like Edwin and Dakhota, Juan and Melanie, and Jorjet Alcocer. His love for traditional bachata was infectious and over time I preferred traditional bachata (and its music!) over any other style. Now it is the end of 2023 and I’m learning something I never thought I’d even want to do: lead. For many reasons, the only teacher I would go to for this training is Rodney. And I can say that he has welcomed me fully into that role, offering constructive criticism and encouragement. His current series has progressed in a manner that challenges me in new ways while reinforcing the body movement I’ve improved over time. So as both a follow, and now a lead, I can say, whether you are a stalwart of traditional bachata or a lover of sensual, I one-hundred-and-ten percent recommend learning the fundamentals and beyond from Rodney Rodchata Aquino. - Christine Williams, (Alameda, CA)
I never thought I'd want to learn bachata, coming from a conservative background where I considered it a bit scandalous. Initially, I found the music boring, but as I listened more, I started enjoying the dance too. When my Salsa teacher mentioned Rodchata's 10-week dance lessons, I thought, why not? Turns out, it's been a blast. Rodney's an excellent teacher, and his passion for the dance is infectious. Now I'm practicing bachata steps everywhere, even in line at the bank or any store's customer service. - Cynthia GML, Fresno, CA
I was first introduced to bachata this summer as part of a taster class at La Peña in Berkeley. Soon after I found Kathy Ruiz’s drop-in classes at Ashkenaz. Rodney guest taught one evening in September and I knew I wanted in on his class. I didn’t realize what an opportunity this would be! As a beginner, I have felt welcomed and challenged (in a good way). I cannot express how much I have learned. Rodney is an amazing teacher, breaking things down so that everyone can get it. He is a patient and charming taskmaster devoted to helping his students progress from wherever they are. Rodney brings his passion for traditional bachata, his footwork prowess, and his insights into what makes a dancer good, to every class. His innate ability to bring a diverse group of students together to learn this beautiful dance made this series a pure joy. I feel connected to the community in a way I couldn’t have imagined. I listen to bachata constantly and practice the 21-steps drill regularly. My love for traditional bachata is firmly established and I can’t wait to dance and learn more! - Cathy Dew (Oakland)
