‘A Hot Havana Night’ …. Welcome to the first social dance night at the Tom Atkin Hall, proudly presented by AFREKETE.
Be transported into a vibrant and exciting evening of music and dance that takes audiences on a journey through the rhythms, sounds, songs, and movements of Cuba.
Experience an escape to old Havana, where the music and dance of Son became synonymous with Cuba.
Featuring an ensemble of talented musicians and dancers, with 4-piece traditional Cuban Son band - LA CLAVE QUARTET - led by song man Nelson Mansilla playing guitar and Cuban Tres, with Kent Windress on Percussion, Gustavo Colmenares on Double Bass and Chris Stover on Trombone. Joining the ensemble are professional Cuban dancers, Israel Ortiz and Christina Monneron. Promoting authentic Cuban culture and the joy of Cuban dance, Christina and Israel are guaranteed to get you up on your feet and grooving the night away.
The Tom Atkin Hall has always been a venue for dance, social gatherings and community. Many of the Tugun children and grandchildren, remember their elders dancing in our beloved little hall. We hope the social dance nights will become regular feature of our Cultural Program at the Tom Atkin Hall.….. sharing music and dancing and community.
