About this Event

It's Shim Sham time! Whether you're learning it for the first time or looking for a refresher, come to HVSD's workshop for a crash course on Lindy Hop's favorite line dance, the Shim Sham. With it's roots in Vaudeville, the Shim Sham as we know it today was developed and popularized by the late great Frankie Manning aka the Ambassador of Swing. If you've been to our social dances, you've seen everyone join in when the appointed song comes on. Now, Kelly and Tank will be demystifying it with you. The Shim Sham is also a practical place to start developing your repertoire of solo jazz moves. 'Tain't what you do, it's the way that you do it! In honor of World Lindy Hop Day (May 26, Frankie Manning's birthday), we will be filming everyone doing the Shim Sham together at the end of the workshop. Participation in this is optional, and if you are willing, we ask everyone to wear as much olive, rust, blush, and coral as your wardrobe allows (see color palette picture in discussion). The workshop runs approximately 1.5hrs 5:30-7pm at The Dance Conservatory prior to our monthly social dance. Please arrive at 5:15 to check in. No partner needed. $25 per person (cash or Venmo only to HVSD), $5 rebate with additional purchase of social dance admission, sold separately*. And we hope that you will stay because it also happens to land on HVSD founder Kelly's birthday so stick around and give her a birthday jam she won't forget! IMPORTANT: This workshop will only run with a minimum of 10 people. Advanced sign-ups required! Reserve your spot by emailing HVSWINGDANCE @ GMAIL. Deadline to RSVP for the workshop is Thursday May 16th. We do not accept drop ins for this workshop. *For the social dance (paid to TDC and separate from workshop): https://www.thedanceconservatory.info/booking-calendar/swing-dance-social
