About this Event

BOOKING: https://www.tickettailor.com/events/ropejam/2221259 Intertwined: Exploring Synergies Between Contact Improvisation and Rope This workshop explores the meeting point between Contact Improvisation and rope: two practices rooted in listening, weight, momentum, trust, curiosity, and embodied dialogue. Together, we will investigate questions such as: How does the language of weight, momentum, and physical listening translate between Contact Improvisation and rope? How do we connect in and out of touch, with or without rope? How do we keep dancing bound and unbound? Through guided exercises, shared research, and open jam time, we will explore the subtle and playful synergies between CI and rope. Expect a space for experimentation, movement, touch, suspension of habit, and embodied conversation. There will be plenty of time to research, move, tie, untie, observe, and jam the possibilities that emerge between these two practices. Suitability All experience levels are warmly welcomed. No prior experience with Contact Improvisation or rope is necessary. This workshop is open to complete beginners as well as experienced movers, dancers, rope practitioners, and curious bodies. About Doreen Doreen has been deeply immersed in Contact Improvisation since 2022, exploring and practising the dance form across vibrant movement communities in Melbourne, New York, Paris, Cologne, and London. Her passion for CI is rooted in its boundless potential to explore the physics of the body, relational presence, perception, and different states of being. She is the co-founder of Øsmøsis, a Melbourne-based project hosting workshops that integrate Contact Improvisation, nature, and diverse movement practices. About Lola Lola is the founder and sensei of Rope Jam Studio, a London-based space dedicated to the exploration of rope as an embodied, relational, and artistic practice. With a background spanning movement, yoga, filmmaking, photography, theatre, and visual storytelling, Lola brings a multidisciplinary approach to rope education. Their teaching weaves together technique, consent, physical listening, creativity, and presence, inviting participants to explore rope not only as structure, but as dialogue, sensation, and shared imagination. Through Rope Jam Studio, Lola is building a community rooted in curiosity, care, inclusivity, and artistic exploration, a place where rope can be studied, played with, questioned, and expanded as a living practice. Important Notes • All activities in the studio are guided by our Code of Conduct, which prioritises consent, respect, and inclusion. • Sober space If you’re new to rope, this is the perfect way to dip your toes in and begin your journey, whether you’re tying, being tied, or simply curious to learn more.
