About this Event

Class description: Air steps are some of the most iconic moves in Lindy Hop, and they are as fun to perform as they are exciting to watch! In this class, we’ll offer a beginner-friendly introduction to Lindy Hop air steps - we’ll go over their history and introduce you to some of the most famous moves, we’ll teach you your first air steps, and we’ll review best practices for learning, training, and performing them. You’ll leave the class not just with some impressive moves to put into your next jam or performance, but a deeper understanding of Lindy Hop history and culture, and tried-and-true methods for practicing safety and consent so that everyone involved has an awesome time. Level: Advanced Beginner / Intermediate. No partner required. Pre-reqs: Students should be in good general shape, and ok with lots of jumping and lifting. Air steps are a fairly physical activity, so exercise caution if you have any history of knee, back, or shoulder injuries, etc. If you’re not sure if this class is for you, feel free to ask! About the instructor: A New York City-based professional dancer, Tim Abrahamsen has been Lindy Hopping since 2006, and performing and coaching aerials for about a decade. He dances with groups in New York City like The Big Apple Lindy Hoppers, Harvest Moon Hoppers, and Hell’s Kitchen Kilowatts, and has performed at events and venues all over the city, including The International Lindy Hop Championships, The USS Intrepid, and Lincoln Center’s Midsummer Night’s Swing. Tim loves teaching beginners and making Lindy Hop fun and accessible for as many people as possible. Ask me to dance sometime!
