About this Event
In this two hour taster class Brenda will introduce a sampling of Blues dances still popular today and that can be done to a variety of Blues music. This course introduces various music styles and the coordinating dances. How to identify them and what dances go with which music and how to create and play even as a new dancer.
Brenda is a renowned Balboa, Latin, Charleston and Lindy Hop teacher, and also remains connected to the blues community, where she continues to strive to develop curriculum and events that raise the community’s level of technique while staying true to the original movement, spirit, and roots of these cultural dances. Brenda teaches online, in person as she travels around, and runs annual events in Portland and Berlin. She most commonly frequents the west coast of USA, England, Germany, and Switzerland.
Brenda Russell’s strength is her personal relationship with the original cultural blues dances danced in bars and in homes. She has dedicated her life to bringing these dances to students and breaking them down in a way that is accessible, even for those without a dance background. She also helps her students find the dancer with-in themselves through her additional experience as a movement educator. Brenda believes we are all born with dance in our bodies, and that each of us can use this activity as a means for personal expression, connecting with others, and exercise.
We are very excited to have Brenda come back to Norwich after her very well received event in January 2024!
