Dear Tangueros, As part of the SoCal Tango Championship we would like to offer 3 stage tango workshops by this wonderful tango dancers: Cristian Correa & Leah Barsky who took the 5th place at the world competition in stage category in 2015. We are proud to have them as the main performers & maestros of the SoCal Tango Championship event! Please read their bios below. Sunday, March 6th 2:00PM – 3:15PM Adagio: Combine technique with passion in this special workshop dedicated specifically to adagio. Learn the art of moving slow and sensual. 3:20PM – 4:35PM “Variation sequences in place: velocity, dynamics, and change of direction” : move through space with awareness, connection and finesse. 4:45PM – 6:00PM “Take Flight In Your Tango! At the age of 18 he studied Classical Ballet at the Teatro General San Martin in Cordoba. Shortly afterwards he moved to Buenos Aires to dance tango where he studied with legendary teachers including Nicolas Cobos and Paola Jean Jean, Sabrina and Ruben Veliz, Claudio Gonzalez and Melina Brufman, German Cornejo, Roberto Herrera and Maria Nieves. He has performed throughout Japan, China, Africa, Europe and South America. Mr. Correa has appeared in several films, including “Un Tango Mas”, the story of tango icons Maria Nieves and Juan Carlos Copes. He represented Cordoba in The Tango Mundial Championships where he was sub-champion for three consecutive years. He has danced in the most renowned tango shows, including Esquina Carlos Gardel, Tango Porteño, La Ventana and Hotel Faena’s “ Rojo Tango”. He is also the choreographer and director of the historic Querandi Tango show. Mr. Correa is a highly sought out teacher and performer, known for his unique style and dynamic presence. ABOUT LEAH: Leah Barsky was born in Germany and grew up in NY. She has been dancing since the age of five. Ms. Barsky is a cross-disciplined performer, and is highly proficient in classical ballet, contemporary dance and Argentine tango. She trained at The Julliard School, New York State Summer School of The Arts, American Dance Festival and California Institute of the Arts. Her professional career started at the age of 17 with the Nai Ni Chen Dance Company here in NYC. Then she had the pleasure of working with Armitage Gone!, Doug Varone, Tango y Mas, Tango 1st Century just to name a few. She has performed throughout the U.S, Asia, Canada, Europe, Chile and Argentina. In 2014 she danced in The Mark Morris Production of “L'Allegro, il Penseroso ed il Moderato” at Lincoln Center. Ms. Barsky has also appeared as a featured dancer in several productions with The Chicago Lyric Opera and The Metropolitan Opera. Most recently she has been living in Buenos Aires and dancing in the most renowned tango shows, including Esquina Carlos Gardel, Tango Porteño, Querandi Tango and Hotel Faena’s “Rojo Tango”. She has performed in some of the most historic milongas in Buenos Aires. In addition, she danced as one of the final couples in the 2014 and 2015 Mundial Tango Championships. As a cross-cultural person and multidiscipline dancer, Ms. Barsky is a unique performer and insightful teacher. The New York Times raved that Ms. Barsky is “sensual and direct and… the most compelling” performer.
