The Jack & Jill Contest originated over 40 years age by Jack Carey in California. It is the ultimate fun lead/follow social dance contest. In the preliminary round a group (heat) of individual dancers will line up on the dance floor in two opposing lines, one line of leaders and one line of followers, each facing the other. At the "toss of the dice" one line of dancers (usually the followers) will move down their respective line the number on the dice until they line up with a partner in the opposite line that is not of there original choosing. The group will then dance for a 90 -120 second period to a song chosen by the DJ. The festival artists will act as judges to decide who will go the next round. There may be multiple rounds before the final round, depending on the number of contestants.
