All dance levels welcome, all dance backgrounds welcome! 7-9pm Workshop 9-10pm Social/ practice time $40 Class Descriptions! The first hour will be ballroomin' blues - slowing things down , walking it out, close embrace, nonverbal negotiation and consent. Jamica will show you dance options when songs like "Gee Baby Ain't I Good to You" by Billie Holiday, or "Texas Blues " by Johnny Hodges comes on! The second hour will be Chicago Triple - shuffley triples, dynamic connections and flowing between positions, this idiom will help you be able to dance at most blues bars! Both classes will focus on partnership technique and black vernacular dance elements. This workshop has Lindy Hoppers, Balboa, and other dancers in mind too. About Jamica: Based in Atlanta, Georgia, Jamica Zion takes pride in being a dynamic follow and growing lead. Jamica aims for range, not just in connection and style, but across genres too! Jamica holds multiple titles in Blues and Lindy Hop contests from top US events including Lindy Focus, Camp Jitterbug, Beantown, and Camp Hollywood. When Jamica is not social dancing, teaching, or working on choreography, they are likely working on research for their dissertation which focuses on these scenes (that they have been a part of since the age of 15)! Jamica’s approach towards sharing dance with others includes a critical understanding and appreciation of its history and culture, while simultaneously ushering students to build their own styles and meaningful connections to it. Jamica is a Frankie Manning Ambassador for this approach both in the Atlanta community and as a guest instructor in other scenes. Jamica draws on the professional training received while working with organizations like the Anti-Defamation League and educational exposure via a sociology doctoral program which allows Jamica to deliver inclusive and responsible classes that are creative, fun, and original. ------------- If you are in need of financial assistance to attend this workshop please email [email protected].
