Hailing from hip hop, Jean-Charles “JoYsS” Zambo considers himself part of a long tradition of Black dance. He imagines his dancing not as bringing ‘modern moves’ to a historic dance, but as a continuation of the movement of the old school lindy hoppers, carrying their spirit into the modern day and modern music. With every step, he challenges himself to level up, to “raise your own style and respect all inspirations without taking off any nature of it”. His piece ‘Drunk Dance On Take Five’ brings this philosophy to life. JoYsS has become one of the most in-demand teachers of the French lindy hop community, performing and teaching internationally. His popularity as a performer extends into the wider art world, choreographing for Caravane Palace, working with Rita Mitsuko, Mika, and La Femme, and dancing and performing for brands like Hermès, Tommy Hilfiger, and Jean-Paul Gauthier.
