Ecstatic Dance Oakland - Sweets Ballroom Sunday May 25th - DJ: Jämi Deva Contact Improv: Marcus van Duren Yoga: Katie McClung Circle & Meditation: Katie McClung ------- DJ: Jämi Deva Jämi – The Gatherer Deva – Angelic Soul a Vibrational Architect, designing potent life-changing experiences for tens of thousands worldwide in live workshops, breathwork empowerments and ecstatic dances since 2005. Studying and practicing with the Sufi's for over 20 years, Jämi is a visionary producer with an ear for the exotic. He believes that Music, Breath and Movement are the keys to unlocking human potential and returning to the natural frequency of True Love. Jämi has dedicated his life work to the expansion of consciousness. Movement + Love = Freedom A true musicologist, Jämi sources and rides the emergent wave of sonic innovation. His mixes span all genres and tempos of dance music serving up an alchemical elixir of multi-dimensional sound wizardry. Jämi elegantly plays live percussion during his set which uniquely activates the shamanic potential of the dance floor. His beats are a ceremonial carnival of epic proportion. His artistry is truly unique - he is gifted and clearly called to hold some very new and transformational frequencies. Jämi Deva was blessed to be initiated into Ecstatic Dance with his first gig at Big island’s Kalani Sunday Morning eDance in 2010. Launching him on a journey that led him to 5Rhythms at The Moving Center in Sausalito and then to create his own weekly dance. DevaDance first began in Sedona and then moved to Ojai, CA. where it has has been consistently pumping out delicious ecstatic grooves since 2012. “Jämi delivers a sound that is difficult to describe. Marcus has intensively studied movement and dance performance since his discovery of contact improvisation in 2013. He has had the pleasure of studying with Chris Aiken, Angie Hauser, Frey Faust, Scott Wells, Kathleen Hermesdorf, Ray Chung, Martin Keogh, Nita Little, Sarah Shelton Mann and many others. Marcus actively investigates new ways of moving and understanding movement as a member of the international Axis Syllabus community. In addition to appreciating dance as a performing art, Marcus sees dance, especially contact improvisation, as a life practice. Marcus is endlessly curious about how dance can be used to access different states of being and uncover new ways of relating to self and other. Yoga, Opening Circle & Meditation: Katie McClung Katie McClung is a yoga instructor, visual artist, musician, educator, and dance enthusiast who has been a part of the ecstatic dance community for over a decade. She has also been a non profit program manager and events manager for many years. Katie combines her skills, interests, talents, and playfulness in order to create an inviting space and joyous experience for dance attendees. ----- All are Welcome. Ecstatic Dance is a Freeform Conscious Dance, Mixed by a Seasoned DJ for a Continuous Sonic Journey. Move however you wish, without verbal guidance, shoes, or booze. Music will flow through various Tempos, Genres, Intensities, and Emotions, so that Dancers may Experience, Express, and Transform their own Energies on the Dancefloor Together.
