It's Dress to Express Night! This month's theme is in honor of Pride Month 🌈✨ Plus more down below about Juneteenth ⬇️ 🎶 Join Swing Dance Vegas for dancing, fantastic music, and great vibes! Whether you are a seasoned dancer or a curious beginner, this is your chance to step onto the floor and have fun dances and make new friends! --- At Midnight on January 1st, 1863, the Emancipation Proclamation declared all enslaved people in Confederate States legally free. However, it took time for Union troops to make it through all the Confederate states to spread the news - in fact, it took 2 1/2 years! On June 19th, 1865, 2000 Union troops arrived in Galveston Bay, Texas to free the final 250,000 enslaved black people. Those newly freed people dubbed the day Juneteenth, and it's celebrated as our country's second independence day. We commemorate this important day at Swing Dance Vegas, not just because it is an important piece of history for us as Americans, but because Lindy Hop has its place in black history and culture alongside Juneteenth.
