This is José's last tour to the U.S. for the foreseeable future, after many decades of annual and semi-annual visits here from his home in Buenos Aires. Mirror and Symmetrical Differences a- Exploring how partners can work with mirroring and symmetrical walks. b- Exercises focuses particularly on Turns: walking symmetrically and pivoting (working on dissociating). Within this lesson, attention will be brought to the embrace and to actively engaging the back and dorsal muscles to allow for more fluidity in how partners hold each other, participants will explore the different types of touch used in the tango embrace, such as surface-level skin contact, a firmer muscular touch, and a deeper touch that brings awareness to the skeletal structure. With this knowledge, participants will be able to communicate different intentions according to the movement and the degree of surrender. Other exercises will include sharing weight, developing connection between partners, and cultivating active listening from both the leader and the follower. It is important to highlight that this is a class for all levels, as it covers fundamental technical elements used throughout the rest of the workshop. 2. Turns from the Old Masters a-Participants will learn a variety of turns used by well-known milongueros and masters of tango combining both systems. b- These will be applied to milonga, tango, and vals. This class is appropriate for intermediate-level dancers who have already taken the first workshop and who are familiar with the three different rhythmic styles. 3. Complex Figures used in walks and turns a-Exercises for Technical figures on walks: barrida, sacada, gancho, voleo. b- Exercise for Technical figures on Turns: barrida, sacada, gancho, voleo We will expand on the second class and introduce complex figures that can be added to turns, such as sacadas, barridas, ganchos, and voleos. This class is appropriate for advanced-level dancers and for participants who have taken the previous two workshops. 4. Combining Complex Figures to use in social dance contexts (Milongas) a- Combining all sequences and elements learnt in the previous workshops. b- Combining the sequence and elements of the turns (exercise b in workshop 3). This last one is suitable for advanced-level and those who have participated in all the workshops. Jose is a complete artist, who weaves an imaginary bridge among the visual arts, theater, and tango dance. He studied drawing and painting with the great Guillermo Kuitca, acting with Vivi Tellas. Jose studied tango with Gustavo Naveira, Puppy Castello, The Dinzels and Miguel Balmaceda, among others. He is recognized as a distinguished dancer, choreographer, director, and teacher. José Garófalo emerged from the vanguard generation of Buenos Aires which approaches tango with the boldness and passion this genre demands.
