Dancing tango full-time since 1987; performing, teaching, and hosting a popular milonga in Buenos Aires and a wildly creative annual tango festival there as well; traveling to the States to teach tango for a good 25 years; and an all around brilliant, funny, and wonderful person, José will visit New York again this March and offer 4 wonderful weekend workshops. Please note the TWO locations!! You know Ripley Grier Studios has several locations. On Saturday we'll meet at the Ripley Grier at 131 West 72nd Street, in room 2R On Sunday we'll meet at the Ripley Grier at 939 Eighth Avenue, near 56th Street, room 2A José has a cluster of 4 workshops planned which highlight the great dancers (you can certainly call them milongueros!) of both the Golden Age of Tango and the great revival of tango that we enjoyed in our own younger days <3 Learning the moves and styles idiosyncratic to specific, resonant, great dancers not only enriches our knowledge of tango culture but also inspires our own unique creations <3 The workshops are at more or less the "Intermediate" level, meaning, you need to be comfortable with improvising a few tangos using all the most common elements. José knows how to engage a mixed-level group with intriguing challenges and beauty from every decade of tango history. Saturday, March 8, 12:00-1:30 ~ Salon tango with fluid embrace: sequences from the old masters with varied resolutions to get you back to the line of dance. Tips for followers about embrace and musicality Saturday, March 8, 2:00-3:30 ~ Milonga tips from the Masters in 3 different styles: milonga lisa, traspie, and falsetti, including some turns and some sacadas! Tips for when to pivot or not pivot, and some work on double-time in milonga as well Sunday, March 9, 12:00-1:30 ~ Vals (waltz) sequences in 3 different styles ~ exploring the crossed system salidas, and the enrosques, in both directions, danced by the same 3 master dancers Sunday, March 9, 2:00-3:30 ~ Projection, Suspension and Marcato in the styles of the 3 master dancers we've been exploring, and in the 3 rhythms (tango, vals, & milonga) Same day price: $45 each workshop Discounts paid by March 7 one class $40 two classes $75 three classes $110 all four $135
