Come join us for our first Contact Improvisation Jam. And its Julie's Birthday! Julie and Brandin (me) are renting RACE's beautiful studio to host CI jams ongoing through fall 2022 and we'd love you to join us. Come dance CI. RACE The Space CI SERIES Brandin and Julie offer the Oklahoma City RACE’s beautiful new dance studio for ongoing Contact Improvisation (CI) jams. Come learn and practice CI. Contact Improvisation may be described as two or more bodies sharing weight, following roving points of contact while falling and resisting gravity. First hour, instruction/warm-up, 7-9 open jam. $5-10 suggested donation. For those concerned about the recent outbreak, a common precaution against the spread of Monkey Pox is to wear clothing that covers down to the ankles and the wrist. If you have a rash and wonder if you might have monkey pox, please do not risk others’ exposure to this painful virus. Biographies: Julie Mulvihill holds a PhD in Dance Theory and Practice from Texas Woman’s University and a teaching certification in the Alexander Technique from Chesapeake Bay Alexander Studies. Julie serves as the president of the World Dance Alliance- Americas and on the editorial team for WDA’s Journal of Emerging Dance Scholarship. She is also the editor of the Alexander Technique International’s ExChange Journal. Since moving to Oklahoma in 2021, she has presented work with Wildly Brave dance company, was an Artist in Residence at SixTwelve community art center in Oklahoma City, and taught master classes and was adjunct faculty at UCO and OU respectively. Julie has studied, practiced, and taught all kinds of movement in all kinds of ways with all kinds of people. http://www.juliemulvihill.com/ Brandin Steffensen is currently on faculty at University of Oklahoma School of Dance. He has a BFA in Modern Dance from the University of Utah and an MFA in Dance from the University of Washington. He has been studying and practicing Contact Improvisation since 1997. He met Nancy Stark Smith in 2008 and began a long mentorship with her that culminated in “The Glimpse Series, Performance installations of the Underscore.”His dances, based on archetypical modes of relationship, have been presented at venues including The New Museum, Dance Theater Workshop, La MaMa, and The Tank, among others. His work with Deborah Hay, Liz Gerring Dance Company, and Keely Garfield Dance have an influence on his approach as does his research with the late Nancy Stark Smith. His process is also informed by his work and performance in Punchdrunk’s immersive physical theater production Sleep No More.
