July Kizomba Workshops: The Shape of Connection - A 2-Part Series with Roc Kizomba

Join us in July for a special 2-part workshop series, in lieu of weekly classes. The Shape Of Connection! Dates: Thursday July 17th & 31st 7-9:30PM Connection is more than just holding your partner - it is how you shape the space between you. In this two-part workshop series, we will explore how body posture, partner positioning, creative holds and movement intentions combine to create both structure AND feeling in your dance. Each session will blend clear technical instruction with expressive, musical application - perfect for dancers who want to elevate their connection and create more exciting, unique opportunities on the social dance floor. Some experience in kizomba is expected. These workshops are best when taken together, however, students are not required to take both. Workshop 1: Form & Function Date: Thursday July 17th 7pm-9:30pm Build a strong foundation with body mechanics that support clean movement, contra-body application, and clear partner communication. Learn how effective positioning with variations like neutral, perpendicular, shadow and reverse shadow, impact the options you have, and how they feel to your partner. Two hours of instruction, plus 30 minutes of practice time. Workshop 2: Emotion & Expression Date: Thursday July 31st 7pm-9:30pm Take your technique further by exploring how shape and spacing create emotional tone in the dance. Use posture, timing, and partner position to express mood, connect with the music, insert opportunities for playfulness and fun in your dance and watch your dance shift, without drastically changing your steps. Who it’s For: These workshops are perfect for dancers with a basic to intermediate understanding of Kizomba. The focus will be to deepen understanding of the partner space, enhance the quality of your connection and develop an expressive range in Kizomba and Urban Kiz.
