Karawane + Sangoma! at the Poetry Club SWG3

Karawane (/kaʀaˈvaːnə/ ) are world music DJs and producers bringing people together. Coming hot on the heels of their 2024 Takeover Tour of Scotland with Meli Perea and Metralleta (Colombia), these are two DJs that will definitely bring some light just as the spring really kicks into gear! Playing a B2b 4-deck set of afrobeat, soukous, highlife, salsa, cumbia and all of the brassy Brasil and island sounds in the middle, this is music to make bodies move and minds travel. Karawane are regulars at YAAM (Berlin) and Diobar (Barcelona), signed to Samedia Records, stage curators at Belladrum and Findhorn Bay Festivals, and hosts of the wildly popular Karawane Takeover nights in the Highlands, where they collaborate with a range of vocalists, percussionists and dancers from all over the world to bring that live, fluid carnival feel to the...shall we say...quieter corners of Scotland! For the SWG3 dancers, we welcome a very special guest! Sangoma is a Glasgow-based selector who celebrates African experience and culture through music on his monthly Clyde Built Radio show. Sangoma played both Karawane stages at this year's Belladrum Festival, and the crowd loved his warm energy and deep selection of dancefloor movers. His name - Sangoma! - encapsulates the message, with ‘sangomas’ being traditional Southern African witch doctors / diviners, and ‘sa-ngoma’ meaning ‘of music’ in the Ndebele and Zulu languages of the region. Expect a range - Zulu mbaqanga and kwela, Shona sungura, Ghanaian highlife, Angolan semba, Congolese rumba, Afrobeat, zouk and more are all in his repertoire! Don't miss this one.
