About this Event

We are SUPER excited to be bringing to Sussex the Master of Kizomba and arguably one of the best Kizomba teachers in the UK, to teach a very special 2 hour masterclass. He will delve deep into the fundamentals of this beautiful partner dance (no partner needed, we will partner you up in the masterclass) so that you can learn the true and authentic way to dance Kizomba (read below for a little more about Kizomba). *You can choose to do only the first hour or do the full two hours (recommended)* In the second hour Rico will take the speed up a little and progress you through the fundamentals of Semba. Semba is the root dance from which Kizomba grew and evolved and is a fun upbeat dance. Understanding Semba is essential if you are to truly understand dancing Kizomba. WHO IS RICO SUAVE? Rico was born and grew up in Guinea-Bissau and moved to Portugal in his twenties, then later to England in 2011. During Rico’s childhood he was surrounded by music and dance of his African culture and family gatherings through which he heard music and dance including Gumbe, Passada and later Kizomba, Semba, Kuduro, Soukous and Coupé Decalé. In Portugal Rico became involved in the Afro dance scene leading him to both compete and begin to organise events. After his move to London Rico began his journey into teaching. Rico is now a much loved and respected international dance teacher and is held in high regard in the genres of Kizomba, Semba and Afro. He is known not only for his unmistakeable smooth and elegant dance style but also his easy going nature, positive energy and never-ending happy vibe. Those attending his classes can expect first hand knowledge from his personal experience, creativity and a teaching philosophy developed from his roots and many years of experience mixed together with his contagious passion and lots of fun. WHAT IS KIZOMBA? Kizomba is a very grounded dance, with the ginga/flavour being created with each step being weighted into the ground with a flat foot. Kizomba is very cruisey & feels very relaxing & pleasurable. Kizomba is a dance that allows dancers to play with the music they are dancing to and, depending on the couple’s intimacy, becoming an extremely close dance with slow and sensual moves, requiring great leading skills and complicity between man and woman, or a more open dance with faster steps, footwork and tricks. In both cases, dancing Kizomba provides a warm and unique experience that you will want to repeat over and over again.
