Bringing your monthly Kizomba with Ashby series - with a twist! ....a GUEST INSTRUCTOR! Your instructor, Mechikana, aka Karla Villarreal, has been a leader in the US kizomba scene, starting back in 2012. I am excited to have her share her knowledge and experience with you all! QUESTIONS? Contact Ashby Laine . YOUR INSTRUCTOR BIO Mechikana, aka Karla Villarreal. Karla comes to us with a diverse dance background, starting at the tender age of 5. However in 2012, she started her Kizomba/Semba journey and hasn’t looked back. Karla has traveled the US and many parts of world to study under professional instructors who have helped build her kizomba/semba repertoire. She began sharing her love of the dance with students as a co-founder of DMMK in Texas, where she taught classes, special workshops and held socials regularly. Under DMMK, Karla played an instrumental role in building the Kizomba community in Texas. Karla branched out on her solo career in 2016 and has traveled the states teaching at many events, weekenders and festivals. In 2017, Afro-house found its way into her resume, which naturally resonates with her lively personality. She is also a co-founder of the Fam Jam Kizomba Dance Festival going strong on its 2nd year. Karla skillfully teaches both lead and follow in a energetic way that truly captures the cultural richness of Angola.
