Flirting with Gravity Sunday CI Workshop With Ezra LeBank Sundays 1-5pm October 29th Dance Home 522 Santa Monica Blvd Santa Monica, CA This workshop is intended for dancers and movers from any background, those wishing to develop more technical capacity in your improvising, and for those wishing to flirt with gravity more often on Sunday afternoon. We will begin with what I call Dirt Work: falling and rising, inverting, sliding, and rolling. These skills will provide material for gravitational playfulness alone and with partners. We will learn to dance with lightness, agility, and a constant readiness for change. As we progress, we will invite the elements into our dances. Bringing in playful dancing scores to broaden our notions of what happens when we improvise, and to enjoy our afternoon together. This work will address skills and adaptation, listening and playfulness. Limited to 20 participants. Sign up early, it is anticipated to fill quickly. Meditation, Aikido, and acrobatics work their way into his curiosity of CI. His approach is inspired by many wonderful teachers including Nancy Stark Smith, Ray Chung, and Andrew Harwood. He has been invited as a teacher at International Contact Festival Freiburg, West Coast Contact Improv Jam, Seattle Festival for Dance Improvisation, Poland Contact Festival, Oberlin CI@50, and many more.
