La Rumba Buena First Annual Holiday Fundraiser w Guests

La Rumba Buena is super excited to be doing our first annual holiday fundraiser! 100% of the proceeds will be donated to the The Jane/Finch Community and Family Centre. The Jane/Finch Community and Family Centre (JFC) is a multi service agency serving residents living in the Black Creek area of North West Toronto. Since 1970 JFC has been working with youth, families and seniors to move from poverty to possibility. Our programs include early years development, mental health social and recreational services, youth leadership growth, employment training, seniors supports, financial literacy and problem solving, and life skills and educational training for young single mothers on social assistance. For over 40 years, JFC has been serving the Spanish-speaking community in Toronto, with language specific services across our program areas, and settlement supports for all newcomer Latin Americans. The Black Creek area has the highest percentage of Spanish-speaking residents in Toronto. Joining us for this festive special will be an all-star lineup of guest DJs, featuring: Nilson Diaz has been DJing for over 15 years and has played in a number of cities across North America and Europe. He is originally from the Dominican Republic and first came to Canada in 1998 with only a handful of Salsa albums. His collection is now more than 4,000 albums deep! His favourite styles are New York and Puerto Rican, both new and old school, Boogaloo, Latin Soul and Latin Jazz! http://djnilsonsalsadura.blogspot.ca/ DJ Timber (Timber Armstrong) may be the only DJ in the world internationally recognised on both the B-Boy & Salsa scenes. He has spun in over 30 countries, held down residencies at Marula Cafe (Spain’s premier Funk & Soul venue), RF Jam (Singapore & Asia’s largest independent Hip Hop Festival) & Just Jam (UK) as well as spinning at most of the top B-Boy events worldwide. No frills, pure vibes, and a non-stop dance floor open to anyone who catches the rhythm. La Rumba Buena just means a great party and ‘Rumber@s’ are people who love to dance. Expect to hear Salsa, Boogaloo, Cumbia, Guaguanco, Son, Rumba, Descargas, Mambo, Cha-Cha-Cha, Bomba, and Plena from the resident DJs. With a stack of vinyl collected over a decade from across the Americas, DJs Blancon and Drumspeak play out the sounds from the Latin Diaspora and bring La Rumba Buena to Toronto.
