La Rumba Buena May Edition w guests Rico Son (Miami) and Timber

La Rumba Buena is a night dedicated to classic Latin sounds inspired by the salsatecas in Cali, Havana, and New York. No frills, pure vibes, and a non-stop dance floor open to anyone who catches the rhythm. After a brief hiatus, we're back! And we can't wait to play for you again, for a couple of reasons. FIRST: we've moved. We're now at 254 Lansdowne and we think you'll love the new space. It carries the Rumba vibe on in true fashion. And SECOND we've got two (2!!!) special guests for you this month. The first is Fernando Ramirez aka DJ Rico Son, who came from a humble barrio in Cali, to the US in the early 80's. Towards the end of the 80s, at 19 years old, life came to a very sudden stop with the passing of his mother. After a few months Fernando found himself in a salsa club singing along to every song being played, it was as if a tape recorder in his brain suddenly went off connecting him to the memories of his mother and his hometown. From there his love for salsa vinyl was born & Fernando would soon spend every dime he’d earn on his record collection. Fernando is part of la vieja guardia of melomanos from Miami, a city steeped in Salsa history & serious collectors! We're honoured to have him. And joining us again is our main man DJ Timber (with easily one of the best salsa LP collections in the country). La Rumba Buena just means a great party and ‘Rumber@s’ are people who love to dance. Expect to hear Salsa, Boogaloo, Cumbia, Guaguanco, Son, Rumba, Descargas, Mambo, Cha-Cha-Cha, Bomba, and Plena from the resident DJs. With a stack of vinyl collected over a decade from across the Americas, DJs Blancon and Drumspeak play out the sounds from the Latin Diaspora and bring La Rumba Buena to Toronto.
