Probably every Tango dancer who visited Buenos Aires has memories of La Viruta - the legendary milonga located in the district of Palermo. This must-go-to Milonga is filled with Tango students till midnight and turns into the meeting point for international dancers & local milonguer@s alike. The special combination of endless nights spent dancing till the morning on the huge dancefloor, filled with hundreds of dancers, all embraced closely dancing to passionate Tango music, the famous last tanda and fresh media-lunas with „café con leche" after 4am - all this makes you fall in love with Tango again and again. This huge dark basement in the building of the Armenian Cultural Centre is also an important institution for popularizing Tango in Buenos Aires. La Viruta is known as an important school where hundreds of people join the tango classes for all levels. Mastermind and charismatic host of the milonga is Horacio „El Pebete“ Godoy - unique teacher, virtuoso dancer, passionate historian of Tango, music producer of and a fantastic DJ. The team of Tango Rouge invites him to bring the spirit of La Viruta Tango Club again to Europe. The venue of this festival is the infamous “Ballhaus Rixdorf”, the historical place for huge Milongas in Berlin. Horacio Godoy will be here together with the amazing tanguera and teacher Maricel Giacomini. We will have DJs Djurdjina Šijaković Maidanik (Belgrad) and Ornella Simonetta (Buenos Aires), and the wonderful dancers Leo Di Coco (Buenos Aires) together with Ornella, Gaia Pisauro and Leandro Furlan (Berlin) and Dilara Ogretmen and Felix Naschke (Berlin) for the shows at this festival. Like the original, La Viruta Tango Club Berlin offers seminars before the milongas by maestro Horacio Godoy and his partner Maricel Giacomini. This intense Tango University with 8 Seminars in 4 Days is focused on musicality and history of Tango. History of Music and Dance: In this 4 seminars we work on different classical tango orquestras for a deeper understanding of their music, its historical development and different ways of interpretation. Thursday 19:00 Seminar 1: ANIBAL TROILO Anibal Troilo is known as maybe the biggest tango orquestra of all time, because of the power and complexity of his music. Friday 18:00 Seminar 2: RUDOLFO BIAGI The magical pianist Biagi was not only on of the key elements of the new revolutionary style developed by Juan D’ Arienzo, but also he built his own orquestra, famous and beloved for a its special way of beat. Friday 19:45 Seminar 3: OSVALDO PUGLIESE Pugliese is maybe the most popular tango orquestras of all time, honored by a train station in Buenos Aires. His music is famous for maximum drama and offers for very intense way of dancing. Saturday 16:00 Seminar 4: RICARDO TANTURI Tanturis orquestras went through the golden age of tango in the 30s and 50s. In his different styles you can read see the different mood of the periods. II. Musicality In the coming 4 Seminars we go deep into the structure of Tango music and try to develop movements for the different layers in the music. What is a tutti, how does it work and why? How to dance a tutti. What is a soli and what is a solo. How do the variations work? Sunday 16:30 Seminar 7: Melody 3 Sunday 18:15 Seminar 8: Melody 4 Drag, one of the modalities most used by some orchestras. Syncopated melody, how it works, how it complicates the dance. Phrasing phrase melody. The maximum expression of music, how to recognize it, how it works, how to interpret it. Who were the greatest references of musical phrasing in Tango. Tango stage takes full advantage of this musical variety to create an intense and exciting show. In this regard, learning to control the speed of the dance, including accelerating, braking, and making strategic pauses, is essential for creating a striking choreography. Additionally, it is also important to know how to dance the "NO movement." With these tools, you can take your tango dance to the next level. Seminar 2: Saturday 21.10. 16:00-17:30: CÓDIGO DE MARCHA In this seminar, we will thoroughly explore the structure of the ''còdigo de macha'' and ''giro'' for both the leader and follower role. We will delve into marking technique and learn how to create figures based on what we have learned. Seminar 3: Sunday 22.10. 12:00-13:30: VOLCADAS & COLGADAS In this class, we will explore the technique of off-axis movement in tango and learn how to improvise and create our own volcadas or colgadas with style and safety. Through specific exercises, we will work on improving the precision and elegance of jumps so that you can confidently incorporate them into your repertoire of movements.
