Afro Fusion
Afro Fusion (or Afro-Cuban) dance was born at the time of african slavery in Cuba, as to represent worship of African gods, which was not allowed at that time under the Spanish reign.
Afro Fusion dance class blends elements of african worship rituals, cuban religious traditions and secular folklore dance and music of Cuba. It's an energetic dance performed to the drum music, based mainly on strong and expressive moves of torso, pelvic and arms.
Rumba
In cuban culture, Rumba involves dance, percussion and singing. Originally the word rumba was a synonym for party. There are three main types of rumba: Yambú (the oldest and slowest style), Columbia (fast and very dynamic solo male dance), and guaguancó (the most popular style).
Rumba has african and spanish roots. It shows itself usually in a form of a spontaneous happening embracing playing percussion, dancing and singing, all improvised and inspired by everyday life. Rhythm and movement have a strong connection in rumba. Musicians and dancers interact by following or challenging each other.
Rumba class introduces basic rumba rhythms and movements characteristic in guaguancó style, which is a dancing interpretation of a game between male and female.
