Late Summer Dance with Luminus!

“Sun is shining, weather is sweet, make you wanna move your dancing feet.” ~ Bob Marley ~ Luminus is our guest Virtual Minister of Music this week! He says, “I feel inspired by the energy of late summer, feeling its lightness, depth but also a sense of nostalgia. I want to invoke the theme of feeling connected to our heart and trusting our intuition while navigating these challenging times. I love, love playing for ecstatic dances. I enjoy the willingness of the dance community to dive deep into free expression. I love how music transcends our emotions, how it connects our nervous systems and brings them on the same wave link. I love it when we all unite through movement to experience oneness. For me, ecstatic dance is a magical container that allows us to fully engage our bodies, hearts and spirits. It is a healing ceremony in which we can access our deeper unexpressed emotions of joy, sadness, longing and allow their playful expression. This helps us to connect to ourselves and consequently to each other. The result is a cleansing group catharsis that carries over into our daily lives. In these socially distanced times I am feeling a mixture of sadness of not being able to be with people directly on the dance floor. I miss the experience of touch, hugging and making eye contact. And yet I am grateful that we have this technology to stay connected and committed to our dance practice. I am amazed by the opportunity to play for a dance community thousands of miles away in real time. I am curious how we can not only tolerate this dance in virtual reality, but also how we can use it as an art form and play within its limitations. So let’s dive in and play.
