About this Event
International dance instructor, Brenda Jean Russell, is coming back to Eureka to teach a Latin Fusion Workshop.
Brenda's workshop will be held at Artists on A 433 A Street, Eureka.
Brenda Jean will offer a sampler of African American, Afro-Latin, and Afro-Caribbean Social Dances. We will be covering the basics of a variety of styles throughout the workshop while improving your overall dancing skills, aesthetics, and styling.
This workshop will be a sampler for some, introducing new dances, finding out what calls you. For others repeating themes of rhythm, technique, expression, and connecting will come through as deeper layers of learning you may find yourself bringing into your dancing in the coming months and years. Whatever lands, there will be some gems for every interest, and level of dancer.

Latin Blues Survival Course
Latin Blues can be based on a number of Latin rhythms, all of which will be based on a 4 beat basic, as opposed to 1 or 2, which we find in other forms of Blues. We will explore the common placements of slows and breaks in these 4 beat patters allowing you to quickly adapt to any Latin Blues song. then we will cover how to replace a slow with a triple step to create more dance styles. This class may also help improve your understanding of Latin dances. We will cover Rumba, Mambo, Cha Cha Cha, Swamp Groove, Boogaloo, 2nd Line
Brazilian Zouk
This social dance is sweeping the globe. Based on Lambada, Brazilian Zouk was influence by RnB, Pop, Hip Hop, and Contemporary. Variations have sprung up from dance schools, mostly in Brazil, but also Spain. This dance has a very simple base pattern you will be able to pick up right away, then play with some common variations. Modern Zouk works well with many types of popular music, and is done in most major cities.
Reggaeton
This club dance is done to a variety of music played in Latin clubs. Reggaeton is a solo dance done in groups, pairs, or all on your own. The movements are common to many Afro, and Afro-Latin dances, and will spice up your partnered Latin dances.
Fusing Bachata
Bachata is a street dance of the Dominican Republic. It is based on a common African Dance pattern that is like a reverse Rumba. Because the basic step of Bachata is this common Afro step you see in everything from Night Club 2 to the Electric Slide people are "Fusing" it to just about any music with a solid 4 beat. We will explore this simple 4 ct basic and play with it, using many variations of leadable basics and turns. Once we diverge from Dominican music we will be dancing Fusion.
