A: You don't need a partner to take the lessons, in fact we rotate dance partners constantly so you get a chance to meet everyone! Great way to make new friends & meet other dancers in the community! LOTS of people come alone so no worries about being that weirdo. Q: I have two left feet, HELP!!! A: You don't need ANY dancing experience to take the lessons. For first-timers make sure you come at 7pm for the beginner lesson where we start from scratch with the basics! You can stay for part 2 (intermediate level) at 8pm or go grab a drink/food and watch if you feel like it's too fast-paced for you. - More experienced dancers might want to skip part 1 and show up at 8pm for part 2 only. It's up to you and how comfortable you feel! :) Q: What shoes should I wear? A: It doesn't really matter, wear something comfortable. Ideally choose a shoe that allows you to spin on the ball of your foot easily without getting stuck (especially for ladies/followers). Q: Is it REALLY 21+ after 9pm?? A: YES, it really is. The Duce legally becomes a bar after 9pm, so that's why. BRING YOUR ID, you will be carded!! Q: What does "on2" mean? A: There are several different styles of salsa, and different places teach different styles. In the lesson you might hear us talking about "on1" and "on2" which are just two different ways of dancing the same dance! On1 means that you take your break step on the "1" beat, and on2 means that you take your break step on the "2" beat. On1 is sometimes called "LA style" and on2 is sometimes called "New York style" or "mambo". We teach on2 at the Duce because our lead instructor, David Olarte, was technically trained in that style by some of the best mambo dancers in the world and because on2 is currently very popular locally and across the world.
