Leading for Followers with Mira & Miranda

You’ve been wanting to start learning to lead or to refine your skills as a leader? This is your chance!! This workshop is tailored for followers with a certain level of experience who want to learn to lead. Mira & Miranda are experienced dancers and teachers of both roles. They both enjoy dancing as leaders socially, and can teach you leading techniques as well as how to navigate the social dance floor. In this workshop we will explore following topics: How to embody the leader’s energy Connection to the cadence of the music Connection to your partner and creating a leader’s embrace Navigating the social dance floor During the workshop, we will work first individually on the leader's technique and then how to apply it in a couple. Everyone will switch roles. The workshop will end with a 30-minute practica to practice what you are learning. This workshop is suitable for those just starting to lead and experienced leaders. We will offer material and instruction that is helpful and applicable to all levels. Prerequisite: Minimum 9 months of regular classes/practice as a follower. Mira: Mira is an active teacher and performer in the queer tango community. She has been teaching regularly for Abrazo Queer Tango in Berkeley since 2016, and has taught and performed at the Queer Tango Festivals in Berlin, New York, and Miami. More info: mirabarakat.com Miranda: In 2010 Miranda introduced the queer tango movement in Paris, France. She taught there as well as at the Queer Tango Festival in Berlin for several years. Since 2016 she lives and teaches in the Bay Area. Miranda also organizes a bimonthly Queer Milonga at Cafe Buneos Aires in Berkeley.
