Learn Beginners' Salsa a fun-filled class with the Cuban maestro of dance

Cuban Salsa is one of the world's greatest dances. Salsa originated in Cuba and is quite different than the ballroom salsa you see on TV shows, this dance is fun, funky, down-to-earth and inclusive of all ages, backgrounds and abilities - it can be as relaxed or as stylish as you want. COURSE DETAILS When: Every Tuesday from 6.30pm Where: Mt Albert Community & Leisure Centre, 773 New North Road, Mount Albert, Auckland 1025 (next to Rocket Park, behind the War Memorial Hall). The space is air-conditioned with a large door that opens up to the fresh air, and marked-out spaces so you can social distance. Parking: There is heaps of free off-street parking right beside the venue. Course cost: $80 for 4 classes held every Tuesday over 4 weeks. A new course will follow on afterwards, which you can continue to attend until you reach intermediate level. You can expect to learn the fundamental techniques of salsa dancing in a constructive way, so you'll be grooving with confidence in no time at all and in time with the music. We will warm up with Vivio's famous 'Follow Me' routine to a medley of Cuban music, incorporating moves from many of the great Cuban dances, including Salsa, Mambo, Chacha, Son, Rumba, Afro-Cuban Orishas dances, Salsaton and more. Here you will learn some of the simple moves and styling techniques. Next, you will learn the simple salsa combinations - some are traditional, while others are original compositions created by Vivio. Currently, you can dance solo or choose a partner to work with each week. In the future, we may begin to change partners, depending on the Covid situation and what you feel comfortable doing. The space is marked out for social distancing. The class finishes with another Follow Me, led by Vivio, where you have a chance to catch your breath, cool down and learn even more exciting dance moves. THE TEACHER You will be pushed to the best of your own abilities and experience with the Cuban dance maestro himself, Vivio, AKA Isbert Ramos Mediaceja. Vivo trained from age 11 at Cuba's leading dance school in Havana and has travelled the world working as a professional dancer, teacher and choreographer for more than 35 years. He is the most experienced and accomplished Cuban dance teacher in New Zealand so you'll learn Cuban Salsa authentically from the start.
