About this Event

Saturday, October 5 12-2pm Open Level The Shim Sham is originally a tap dance routine, which has become a line dance for swing dancers. Starting In the 1930s, it was usually the last dance of the evening after many performances where all the dancers, musicians, and singers would get together onstage and do one last routine. When Frankie Manning (an original Lindy Hopper) started teaching swing in the 1980s to a new generation of people interested in reviving this fun energetic dance, he introduced the Shim Sham at the New York Swing Society dances, creating his version for today's swing dancers. It is now a staple swing line dance, danced all over the world. At many dances today, the Shim Sham is still done as one of the last dances of the evening.
