Lindy Hop Across the Ages afternoon dance and discussions!

Whether he is presenting a concert, a social dance, or any show during his long residency at the now-defunct Swing 46 supper club, George joyfully and skillfully cultivates fans across the age spectrum from childhood to golden years. In an art-forward room at the beautiful and historic Salmagundi Club, we will explore why it's both important and beneficial to proactively make space for our elders in our environments and events. We'll also discuss ways in which anyone (in any community) can be more age-inclusive. This program will center the swing and jazz community, but all are welcome! More details: NYC-based George Gee has been a passionate jazz bandleader for nearly 50 years, presenting mid-century jazz classics and American Songbook standards for thousands of swing music fans nationwide and around the world. Influenced by his mentor Count Basie (the favorite bandleader of Harlem-born swing dance legend Frankie Manning), George is known to cater to dancing audiences. He also is especially hospitable toward Lindy Hop’s elders as well as the next generation’s tradition-bearers. His events welcome dancers of all ages, cultures and ethnicities. This participatory educational program in the beautiful Skylight Gallery will discuss dance history, the importance of passing on traditions, how to intentionally make space for people of all ages, and the value of connection across cultures and generations. Listeners, non-dancers and not-yet-dancers of all ages are warmly encouraged to attend, connect, dance, and enjoy the spirit of Lindy Hop.
