Contact Improvisation is often framed through binaries—active/passive, leader/follower—but these distinctions do not accurately reflect the complexity of the negotiation, the conversation, the dance. This workshop proposes a different paradigm: listening at the core, surrounded by a field of agency. With this in mind, we will delve into the concept of yielding as a choice, promoting ease, clarity, and responsiveness in our dancing. Technical attention will be given to the fascia and how it can support efficient communication through touch. Strategies for coordinating with space, within our own bodies, with a partner, and within a group will provide frameworks for play and exploration. By combining listening and agency we will arrive at dances that are simultaneously bold and sensitive. ✨ ABOUT GABRIELLE REVLOCK Gabrielle Revlock is a New York City Bessie Award-winning choreographer and has been a practitioner of Contact Improvisation for over 20 years.
