Little Lindy Poznań with Maria & Tomasz

Welcome to the first Little Lindy workshop in Poznań at the Retro Dance Studio! This time, joining me will be Maria Filippova, and we will be teaching a 6 hour intenstive workshop to a limited group (maximum 12 couples) of experienced lindy hoppers. Maria Flippova is a Lindy Hopper from Moscow, together with her regular dance partner Daniil, have been making a splash in the Lindy Hop dance scene – most recognizably in the form of innovative choreography. They can take our breath away with speed, flash and power, or as most recently they demonstrated at the Balkain Championships classic they can be easy, silky and smooth. But that's not to say that Maria is mostly focused on Choreography, she's developed her own leading and following philosophy that can be both precise and expressive. Who am I? My name is Tomasz Przytycki, and those in the Polish Lindy Hop scene probably know me personally. I have been dancing Lindy Hop for about thirteen years now, though I had sizeable gaps for attending modern dance educations. I have been involved in the Kraków Lindy Hop scene since 2010, and notably am one of the organizers of Dragon Swing. I am passionate about improvisation, and I believe that the best thing you can give a student is a piece of your own energy or passion. I believe that I can't make anyone a good dancer, but I may be able to inspire them to dance. I don't mean that cynically, I just mean that as a teacher I can give tools, motivation and inspiration, but in the end the journey is yours. What is the Little Lindy series? The Little Lindy series is focused on the concept of fresh collaboration. Shaped out of my desrie to develop myself by taking new ideas in from others, the workshops are an opportunity to share the creative process further. My goal is to create a door into the way that we think, and see how differently various collaborations shape us. Here we are not coming with polished materials, but as experience dancers who want to share our passion with you. Level? This workshop is aimed for more experienced dancers. First of all, our biggest value is that you come with a curious mind and open to engage with us (the teachers) and the material. There are a few movements and concepts we would like you to be comfortable with: you should be comfortable with the swing out and incorporating it into social dancing. You should be comfortable improvising withing the social dance, using both 6 count and 8 count figures in both triple and single time rhythms.
