May 1st - The Adam Lee-Morgan Jazz Band - $18 Mary Lou Williams was the powerhouse behind some of the most iconic sounds of the Swing Era. She made her mark as the star pianist and arranger for Andy Kirk, but her influence didn't stop there. She was a go-to writer for legends like Duke Ellington and Benny Goodman, and she even mentored the next generation of revolutionaries like Dizzy Gillespie and Thelonious Monk. Adam Lee-Morgan is finally bringing her genius back to the forefront. This project features carefully reconstructed big band arrangements that have been sitting in the archives for far too long. These aren't museum pieces. They are high-energy masterpieces that deserve to be heard, celebrated, and most importantly, danced to. Never been swing dancing before? Do you have two left feet? Do you think you lack rhythm? That's no problem at all for us. At 8:00 pm, we'll teach you the steps you need to know to have a good time. It's even included in the cost of admission. No partner? No problem. Our classes are social and rotate partners and you'll meet a ton of cool, new people. Do you have a partner and only want to dance with them? That's cool with us too.
