El Encuentro's' been the bastion of traditional tango in L.A. since 1999. These 26 years have flown by as we've had the privilege to present world-renowned performers, enjoyed countless virtuoso musicians, welcomed thousands upon thousands of local, national and international dancers, and danced to the music of hundreds of sensational DJs. Overseeing the genesis of El Encuentro, the growth of its worldwide reputation and the continuation of its traditions is our patron, ANGEL ECHEVERRIA! Born in Buenos Aires in 1939, Angel grew up in tango and as a youth danced to the LIVE MUSIC of Pugliese, DiSarli, Calo, D'arienzo and all the orchestras of the Golden Age. Sit with him sometime and listen to his stories of tango "back in the day". He has witnessed things you won't find in any tango book. Do the math and you can figure out how many tandas around the sun we will be celebrating with him tonight! The Patagonia Tango Dance Company has put together an impressive orchestra comprised of elite musicians and we are thrilled they will be playing for us tonight. The PATAGONIA ORCHESTRA consists of: World-renowned bandoneonista RODOLFO ZANETTI. He has played in every major concert venue in the world (including The Tango Room)! He was here in 2021 with the Pedro Girarudo Quartet for our Int'l Day of Tango gala. Bassist HECTOR PINEDA of Forever Tango. He too has played at The Tango Room with the Tango BC Quartet and Tango BC Trio. Violinista VICTORIA MOREIRA, First Prize Winner of the Viva El Tango Agustín Carlevaro Competition and former Music Director of the American Tango Institute. Multiple albums and tango festivals among her credits. It will be her first time playing at The Tango Room. Pianista EMILIO TEUBAL is a composer/arranger from Argentina based in New York. He has recorded over thirty albums, including the 2018 Latin Grammy Winner album "Vigor Tanguero" by the Pedro Giraudo Group. Emilio has performed in some of the most prestigious venues and theaters in the United States such as The Lincoln Center, The Kennedy Center, Brooklyn Academy of Music, Symphony Space, The Blue Note, Birdland, Le Poisson Rouge, and Joes Pub. This will also be his first time playing in the 'prestigious' Tango Room! Taking to the mic to sing for you will be the hot new voice in Tango, VALE. She has been featured all over Argentina and in all the major tango houses in Buenos Aires and is ready to spread her wings to the rest of the world. When the Patagonia Orchestra takes a break, the orchestra's Artistic Director DJ OSCAR MANSILLA will enthrall you with tandas selected to perfectly complement the orchestra's sets. All this in addition to our bountiful buffet and a champagne/wine bar. You can be assured El Encuentro will treat you right as always! There will be no pre-milonga class. Doors open at 9pm.
