About this Event
Usher in 2018 with all the spirit and madness of the carnival! This New Year’s Eve, The Boat Shed is offering you the chance to escape from dark depths of Devon's winter and arrive in a better place: our own world of music, masks, and mayhem.
With live music, DJs, Mardi Gras food and cocktails, New Orleans dance lessons, and plenty of surprises, The Boat Shed promises to be the best New Year's Eve in Exeter. The Mardi Gras New Year’s Eve is about the sounds of New Orleans and South America in a fully immersive carnival atmosphere.
We are pleased to announce Camo Clave - Bristol’s brassy seven-piece - as our headline band. Mixing traditional Latin American rhythms with the beats and electronics of contemporary dance music, they create an energetic tropical party for twenty-first-century party-goers. You might have found yourself dancing to Camo Clave at festivals such as Wilderness and Shambala.
Continuing the carnival is The New Orleans Jazz Trio: trumpeter Joe Longridge's outfit. Joe is regarded as one of the jazz scene's most respected trumpet musicians.
DJ Louie Louie, Worm Disco Club, DJ Dodgy-Style and Mr Puckey are our DJs for the evening playing tropical, New Orleans funk, afrobeat, house and party tunes.
You're expected to do your bit: there's a fancy-dress theme with the traditional Mardi Gras colours of green, gold and purple. Mardi Gras masks, beads and feathers should all come out too.
As if that’s not enough, the Rusty Pig is setting up its mobile kitchen and preparing a special South American and New Orleans style menu - it was recently winner of the Devon Street Food awards.
Lately returning from a placement in New Orleans, the Bike Shed’s Justine Bock has crafted special cocktails for the evening.
