Join #Choreographer Sekou McMiller for a Discussion and Master Class in: Afro-Latin Jazz Sat, Jun 24 12pm - 2pm At Restoration Plaza 1368 Fulton in Brooklyn ——— ABOUT: AFRO LATIN JAZZ Sekou will guide participants through his unique and exciting style of Afro-Latin Jazz. Introducing Latin rhythms and techniques deeply rooted in the Caribbean (Salsa/Mambo, Cha-cha-cha, Rumba, etc...) while blending with urban dance, modern, jazz and contemporary styles. Structurally derived from traditional West African, Ballet/Jazz classes and pilates practices, Sekou's warm-up guides the dancers through breathing and fluid movement exercises that strengthen technique, musicality and flexibility. All the while breaking down the intricacies of Latin Dance rhythms, movements and attitude. The across the floor combos gets the dancers moving with turns and jumps using authentic Latin moves promoting spacial awareness, power and presence. Class choreography will feature excerpts and phrasework from the latest repertory work of the SMc Dance Co. choreographed and Directed by Sekou McMiller. ————— ABOUT: SEKOU MCMILLER At the forefront of a new movement in Latin dance, Sekou’s unique style has an Afro-Caribbean essence that is laced with many different dance techniques. Combined with an explosive energy, Sekou’s dancing and choreography have garnered him broad recognition worldwide that spans from Broadway to the international underground latin scene. He is the Founder and Artistic Director of the Afro-Latin Dance Company, Sekou McMiller Dance Co and was a choreographic fellow for the Alvin Ailey Dance Foundation’s New Directions Choreography lab Winter/Spring 2017. In Yes addition He has performed and choreographed for Top Latin artist such as Gilberto Santa Rosa, Willie Colon, Cheo Feliciano, Johnny Pacheco, Tito Rojas, Tito Nieves, PitBull, as well as the pop icon Madonna. Currently Sekou is a faculty member at Joffrey Ballet School, Steps on Broadway, Ailey Extension, Ballet Hispánico, and a Guest Faculty member of Broadway Dance Center.
