About this Event
Have you ever seen someone dance with incredible groove? Where you can hear the instruments better because of how they move? Not just hitting a beat, but grooving Pachanga like a Güiro, hitting footwork like a piano, turn patterns like a Cowbell, On2 like a Clave, Hips like a Bass, or shoulders like a Conga?
What better way than by immersing oneself in the groove, playing live instruments and being a part of the rhythm creation with your own body?
Hugo Cruz will be teaching how to play Güiro, Bongó, Congas, Campana, Chekere, Maracas, Several forms of Clave, Timbales, etc (all present in SALSA MUSIC from Cuban origins), and teachjng the cultural context needed to understand the instruments, the dances, and the culture that created them and how it's aesthetics and musicality shaped the dances. This is a cultural immersion workshop using music, from a culture that only primarily makes dance music, which is responsible for the root of Salsa & a lot of Ballroom's very existence.
