MCDC Dance Journey 5 30: Deek Martin

COME DANCE YOUR INNER FAIRY WITH DEEK MARTIN! Join our barefoot conscious community dance every Wednesday from 5:30 - 7:30 at the beautifully adorned Makawao Union Church on 1445 Baldwin Ave in Makawao, Maui. Please bring plenty of water and wear clothes that allow you to move freely. No experience required! Donations are $15. We suggest a donation of $8 for one-wave dancers, with our second wave starting around 6:30. Please inquire about work trades; we do not turn dancers away for lack of funds. ABOUT FACILITATOR DEEK MARTIN Certified Feldenkrais therapist and creator of Maui's FreeStyle Dance Jam, Deek is a long-term conscious dancer and facilitator on Maui. The musical menus he creates contain no lyrics and are known for being trance-inspiring, exhilarating and deeply relaxing all at the same time. Deek has been a dedicated member of MCDC's team for many years as well. WHAT TO EXPECT AT OUR DANCES? An MCDC dance consists of two waves, each offering a wide and stimulating variety of musical styles and rhythms. We start at 5:30 with stretching and gentle movement, inviting you to connect with yourself and truly arrive in your body. The wave then steadily builds into a crescendo so we can share our hearts and "sweat our prayers," as Gabrielle Roth, the mother of conscious dance called it. The second wave peaks even higher before taking us all the way back to stillness and unity at the end of our journey. 7 GREAT THINGS TO KNOW ON THE MCDC DANCE FLOOR! 1. Dancing is our preferred language and we invite you to save conversations for outside. When on the porch we appreciate it if you can adjust your voices to the quiet phases of our dance. 2. We dance in a way that is physically safe for all. If you like to lift others, please keep feet below the waist. 3. Illegal substances and alcohol are not to be consumed anywhere on the Makawao Union Church property. 4. We want to keep our smaller creatures safe and only allow children and dogs on the dance floor when they are held in arms. If your children are playing outside, please assure they leave the premises as they found it. 5. If you experience any difficulties on the dance floor, please find an MCDC team member and we will do our best to support you. 6. The two sound speakers closest to the front doors are at a lower volume. We provide ear plugs if needed. 7. We limit announcements after dance to only those of great communal concern. Please let us know in advance if you would like to make such an announcement.
