Melty Micro

Save the date for a Micro-only social! This one is for all those who love their melty, gooey dances. Micro, often short for microfusion, is a style of partner dance that focuses on using "micro" movements and a strong connection with our partner to allow ourselves to melt deeply into the music. While there is no official basic step for micro, dancers often rely on synced breathe, tiny weight shifts, body isolations, and changing energy levels to further embody the music. For our friends who haven't been to a micro event - if you've been to a late-night zouk, blues, kizomba, or similar event, you'll feel right at home! This is a micro-only event, so leave your grand movements at home, and bring your grand musicality, isolations, and artistic spirit! Schedule: 8 PM - 9 PM: Class: Consent & Musicality: Creating a Safe & Strong Connection This class will focus on two central pieces of how we build a powerful connection in micro. Through musicality we melt into the music with our partner; through creating safety we build the environment where that melt is welcomed. 9 PM - 12 AM: Micro social with DJs Brian & Jeannie Opening DJ: Brian! Brian has been dancing fusion for over 10 years now (ugh), and danced and DJ'ed in many a large city, including Chicago, Seattle and Los Angeles. Micro is quite dear to his heart, and DJing just feels like dancing with the entire floor at the same time. He most enjoys tinkering with transitions during his sets and you can expect a comfortable softness to his sounds. Closing DJ: Jeannie! Having DJ-ed and traveled to various corners of the world, Jeannie loves collecting her favorite music along the way. From the DJ booth, she takes pleasure in tantalizing the crowd by weaving an irresistible, unfolding tapestry of shifting moods and dynamic story arcs. Saturated with rich beats, sensual rhythms, and emotive melodies, each set is designed with its own unique signature just for that space and moment in time. Cost: $15 Venmo/PayPal/Zelle preferred. We will be at PiYoDa Flow, a wonderful community oriented space that supports Pilates, yoga and dance artists. Large dance floor, no pillars, quality sound system, everything a dancer wants! Parking? There is a small parking lot that we ask be reserved for those who would feel safer parking close. If you are coming in a group, or feel safe walking in LA by yourself, please use street parking! The studio regularly hosts late night events with no issue, but it is LA, so always stay mindful. Regardless, we will offer walks back to your car if you need! Consent & Code of Conduct?
