About this Event
Tango Warwick invites you to enjoy and enhance the June, indeed glorious June, edition of their monthly milonga.
To provide the music for such an occasion who better than David Thomas, one of our and UK's most popular DJ's. If you can't wait, see him in action in the Vien m’embrasser encuentro, in Carcassonne, France, in late May. He will also bring some of his latest books to sell and sign; see below**.
We will be at home in Warwick SPACE. It is a large room with a decent floor, in a space reminiscent of Buenos Aires' Sunderland Club (some say), and with great acoustics. (see https://youtu.be/DXSYRjzcjpQ)
There will be some nibbles, soft drinks, fine cordials and wine for early arrivers, but BYOB if you wish.
It will be the friendly, joyful, and lively milonga tango dancers have come to love. Above all there will be a warm welcome for visitors, regulars, and once regulars, alike. Quoting a distinguished tanguero "a lovely milonga with a barrio feel, very good and friendly social dancers and a fluid ronda."
TIME: Friday 2nd June, 8pm-midnight.
PLACE: Warwick SPACE, 71 Coten End, Warwick CV34 4NU.
COST (Cash at door only) : £12 (£8 for students with student card). In cash. Prebooking not required.
WARWICK SPACE is on the north side of the main road north of the river between Leamington and Warwick; next to the Black Pug pub, aka Millwright Arms, and almost opposite a Sainsbury local. It is a short walk from Warwick Railway Station, and not far from M40 and A46. There are several hotels & B&B's nearby in this tourist area. The Castle Limes Hotel is a few minutes away. The Jephson in Leamington is about 1.3 miles away. Some swear by its breakfast. You can now even stay in Warwick Castle grounds.
PARKING is mostly on road, especially towards Warwick on the main road or Smith Street (one way, going East), on back streets (not very easy), or towards Warwick station. The St Nicholas Park car park is about 10 minutes walk away but you probably could do with a torch on the way back.
HEALTH PRECAUTIONS If you think you may have been infected with covid please take a test. If a test is positive or you are feeling unwell please stay away, especially if you think it may only be the flu!
**Apart from being a superb DJ, David Thomas's book "Getting to Know 20 Tango Orchestras" is really invaluable as well as fascinating to anyone who spends time with tango music. His latest series "Get to Know Tango" https://tango-journey.com/book-series-get-to-know-tango/ looks every bit as fascinating. Two of the inset pictures in the cover photo of this post are taken from volumes in the series. You can probably guess which.
