Argentine tango in a welcoming and open atmosphere. This Tuesday we welcome DJ José to our Melbourne community. José has recently joined us here in Melbourne from Argentina, where he grew up listening to tango from his parents’ record player. He has been dancing tango for many years, and DJing at milongas organized by himself and friends in Bariloche, Patagonia. His love for tango is divided: he is both a dancer and a musician. He likes to combine these aspects when he can – he established and directed a tango sextet in Argentina where he wrote highly danceable arrangements for milongas and played guitar. He has travelled extensively to “encuentros de tangueros” across Argentina to hear the new wave of contemporary tango orchestras reviving the live music tradition, and he loves to throw some newer tandas in between more classic orchestras. He would like to warn you that his personality as a DJ is energetic and at times dramatic, and prefers music that is fun and rich in details. He usually plays 3-song tandas to fit more orchestras and dance partners into the night, and a danceable cortina from time to time, feel free to enjoy them! The Aegean provides an ambience of Mediterranean flavours, a place for dancing, enjoying a drink and gathering with friends. St Vincent's Plaza is the closest major tram interchange, serviced by Yarra Trams routes 11, 12, 30 and 109. Parking can be tight on Brunswick St so be sure to come early.
