In Louisiana, Black communities shaped Mardi Gras through parades, bands, masks, and dance — traditions rooted in public celebration and cultural pride. Through cultural exchange, including connections with Native American societies reflected in the Mardi Gras Indians, these traditions grew into layered expressions of identity and unity. Second line traditions — where communities follow the music through the streets — embody this spirit of visibility and togetherness. They turn movement into presence and celebration into shared experience. Máscaras y Baile — in the Bluegrass carries that tradition forward, gathering through rhythm, color, and connection. ⸻ 💃 Class Before the Social Bachata Class | 8:30 – 9:15 PM A welcoming Bachata class with sensual elements, designed for beginners and experienced dancers alike. We’ll focus on connection, flow, musical expression, and grounded movement — introducing sensual concepts in a clear, respectful, and accessible way. No partner needed. Social dancing follows. ⸻ 🎶 Music & Movement A Mardi Gras–inspired blend of rhythm and celebration: Salsa • Bachata • Merengue • Kizomba • Konpa + more Layered sounds, shared energy, and a dance floor that moves like a parade. ⸻ 🎨 Theme & Attire Masks suggested Colorful, expressive dress encouraged Think feathers, bold colors, shimmer, texture — the flare of carnival.
