Ready to tackle the musicality beast? Whether you are a seasoned musician or musical rookie, this Intensive will help you sort through the clutter and figure out exactly what to prioritize to build your musicality skills in West Coast Swing. *Pre-requisites* The Intensive is open to all levels except brand new beginners (you need to have some understanding of the basics). The 3-hour Intensive is progressive, meaning the topics build on each other. *Schedule* 3 progressive hours total: Part 1: Basic Music Theory for Dancers Essential music structures that dancers need to know How to distinguish a WCS song How to “find the beat” How to find and keep your pulse in WCS (Swing Literacy recommendations for how to teach basic musicality - if appropriate for current students in attendance) Part 2: Blues Appreciation Understanding Swing rhythm and getting it in your body Structures of *good* Blues songs: layers & phrasing Designing & manipulating WCS moves for Blues Part 3: Contemporary Appreciation Understanding contemporary groove & flow Structures of *good* Contemporary songs: layers & phrasing Designing & Manipulating WCS moves for contemporary & lyrical <NOTE - details of when in the weekend schedule the intensive will take place are being worked on currently> ***** As master teachers and teacher trainers, Myles & Tessa's aim is to make learning and improving West Coast Swing better, faster, and easier.
