MYSTICAL MASQUERADE is an Intimate Ecstatic Dance Camp & Festival Experience - framing the 2nd Annual RainbowMoon Fest (rainbowmoon2022.eventbrite.com) which itself celebrates regional musicians, artists and crafts, wellness activities and workshops, with unique merchandise and quality food vendors. Featuring a Shopping Village, Artists Alley and FOUR staging areas with live music, performers and immersive educational wellness workshops. THIS is a unique opportunity to go a step beyond the dance and jump into a deeper dive with Master Mask Teacher AKIL APOLLO DAVIS - who recently led a LightBody Workshop and other programs at the DANCE BEYOND Campout in the Berkshires (June 2022) and is an active member of the Dance Lab and Ecstatic Dance NYC community. Akil presents The Mystical Mask-Work immersive workshop: "Ready for a dose of something powerful, resonant and transformative? Join the “Mystical Mask Workshop” for a unique experience of exploring your own body, transformation, image and energy. This workshop will use completely original Masks that have been hand-carved by a Balinese Brahman (Priest). The power of the Mask is in their ability to inspire transformation, movement of your energy and Healing... Some Masks that will be involved: Will Power. Pleasure. Archetypes. “Angels“ and more... The workshop begins with movement, moves into a Beginner’s Introduction to the Mask Work then allows you freedom to explore your own transformation and movement. It ends with an informative talk-back and collective reflection." Your weekend campout stay features the remarkable LIOR ALLAY who presents us with "Root Song: Sound Healing with Natural Rhythms." Using the power of your voice we release energetic blockages and ground deeply. This is a sensory immersion into the healing power of sound. We’ll play with the inter-penetration of our voices to harmonize and experience the instrument of our bodies in a new way. We’ll begin with breathwork, toning, chanting, and movement. Then in small groups, one receiver at a time will be taken through the deep resonance and relaxation of sensual song. This does not involve any direct skin to skin contact. At night there will be a song circle around the fire led by Faye Adinda. In this Song Circle, we will learn easy-to-memorize songs that we sing as a group. And guess what..? You don’t have to be an experienced singer at all! It is so empowering to sing beyond what society deems a “good singer”. This is a safe space to practice opening your voice in a non-judgmental, supportive and loving group container, while singing songs that remind us of our deepest truths. HOW THE FULL WEEKEND OF MASKS FLOW: After attending the introduction - these Masks will remain available throughout the camp retreat - as well as at the site of the RainbowMoon Fest (evening portion) - for continued work in the Ecstatic Dance sessions the evening of 7/16. Participants who have taken the Beginners Introduction- which explains the care of the Masks and how one works with them - will receive a wrist band which allows continuous access to the Masks. For some dance sessions Akil will have the Masks available - you can choose a specific Mask or be utterly surprised by what you receive. This structure and flow allows for the DEEPER work over extended periods of time in which the work can be intentional and/or explorative. It is an opportunity to work on oneself, with movement, transformation, healing, and growth. This form of Mask work has been shared at Universities, Theaters, and healing institutions all around the world. It is so unique that only 3 people on the planet teach it. Come with an open mind and come ready to move - beyond. NOTE: On Saturday's RainbowMoon Fest - the Tibetan crafted masks will be available to Mystical Masquerade attendees (who have now had experience working with the masks) to dance with the masks during the last set of the Ecstatic Dance - all masks must be returned as participants return to the main stage tent by the end of the Sound Journey led by the Sound Sirens. Food is also available for purchase at the Festival Grounds of RainbowMoon Fest - including vegetarian and vegan options. MORE ON THE MASKS: 1. These Masks are ALL originals and are hand carved by a Balinese Priest….IN Bali. Treat them like powerful sacred objects. 2. The Masks have been designed by either Akil or the originator of the work, Per Brahe…Akil is the only human in this country who teaches this material...it is extremely unique 3. The Workshop uses freeform movement, side-coaching (I guide you from outside), movement meditations, special physical or energetic exercises and of course Masks. �The more you MOVE... the MORE you get out of it! 4. The Masks will inspire your body and energy to transform. Transformation and movement are great for soul-training, healing, and deepening your human experience. 5. Mask Work can inspire you to go very deep or far in your experience and can be hugely cathartic. You may experience strong or sometimes unexpected emotions or physical activations. This is a good thing. Do not judge yourself. SUPPORT your own journey! 6. Be RESPECTFUL and SAFE with YOURSELF. 7. Be RESPECTFUL and SAFE with ALL of your FELLOW participants! We are on the journey together! 8. It is crucial to move your SPINE as much as possible for the first 6 minutes of wearing the Mask. This helps the image get into your body and give your body space to transform. The more you move the more you get out of it. 9. You are encouraged, and will be reminded, to make SOUNDS. Sound removes blocks and activates energy. 10. Expect to TRANSFORM in a way that leaves your brain behind and drops you into your body. 11. It is highly recommended that you spend at least 15-20 minutes in a mask at a time. Your body needs time to transform and speak to you. For perspective: In regular mask workshops- we work for an hour in a single mask. 12. You must ABSOLUTELY NOT JUDGE THE MASK FOR HOW IT LOOKS!! The masks are not made to LOOK like what they are. They are made with intention. In Regular Mask Class you aren’t even allowed to know what mask is on your face!! It keeps you from Pre-acting in a wrong direction. Your body has more than 5 Empirical Senses. You have a natural physical awareness of strong IMAGES. Every human does. Therefore ANY human can do this work. 13. Have fun and explore your movement and energy. This is a great time to work on yourself! 14. The Masks that will be available: Will Power / Angels / Archetypes / Character / Healing heart / Truth / Pleasurable Yes / Pleasurable No / Healthy Sexual Energy / 2nd Chakra MORE ON RAINBOWMOON FEST: The day evolves into a night of more live music and DJ sets for free-form conscious dance at the 2nd annual EcstaticSoundz Concert & Ecstatic Dance, beginning with a concert performance by producer/musician/artist Paul Patterson of EARTH EPHECT - accompanied by performance artists. Next is the spinning prowess of DJ URSIDAE (DC based multi-instrumentalist, producer Josh Ingram) whose unique sound is characterized as an ever-evolving fusion of electronica, jazz & funk. The evening is highlighted by DJ and musician KALLUM (Callum McQueen of Portland Oregon). The last DJ set features a fire-spinning show spectacular with talented fire-spinners and fire breathers - flowing their majestic fire-art with the beats of global tribal electronic dance music. The evening concludes with a very special performance and “experimental sonic journey" collaboration with the SOUND SIRENS featuring the ethereal vocals of Joy Okoye (JourneyDance) and Serenity Entity (Ascenzion), the percussions of April Centrone (10PRL) and once more Paul Patterson of Earth Ephect, featuring face & body-painted dancers choreographed to the music.
