He sang on "Criança Esperança" on Globo TV this year and has appeared in several Globo novelas including Fina Estampa. KAREN KELDANI - Spiritual Singer http://www.karenkeldani.com/ Karen Keldani is a singer who started early in her artistic life, who recently sang with a youth group in Rio for the Pope's 2013 visit to Brazil. At 7, she was a soloist in the choir of the composer Mirim Waldeci Farias at Notre Dame College in Ipanema school, where she studied for a lifetime. At 10, she participated in novela Araponga Globo and has not stopped working with music and theater. Very religious, at age 17, she became a Catholic in the Parish of the Resurrection where she also taught dance and theater for children. She graduated in Arts and at 20 years of age, represented the life of Santa Clara in the musical "Francis of Assisi" Cyrus Barcelos, show that toured throughout Brazil and the world for seven years. In the same period, she recorded the Christmas special of Xuxa. Karen Maria represented the Passion of Christ of Arcos da Lapa and Ipanema beach at the meeting of the Parishes of Our Lady of Peace and Resurrection. She participated in the choir coming of Pope John Paul II as a singer and preparing the voices of children outdoor Mass held in Flamengo. After integrating various musical successes in 2009, Karen was invited by the composer Ricardo Brito to record her songs on the album Soul Women. Through this experience, and performing several shows in Rio de Janeiro, decided to devote herself to an old dream: to record a cd to speak of her faith and love for God. In 2012 she released the album "My Faith". Produced by her brother, actor, singer and songwriter Fábio Keldani and arranged by Fernando Monteiro, the album features songs already known by all. ENGELS ESPIRITOS - Musician, Composer http://www.engelsespiritos.com/ The musician, Engels Espiritos, is one of the most versatile, expressive and respected harmonica players of Brazil, who brings a fusion of compositions between Afro-American music and Brazilian music. A recognized artist, who has already played in circuits and fests in several countries including: Canada, the USA and countries of Europe. He began his musical studies in a lyrical singing course at EMB (Music College of Brasilia) and it's technical basis was the survey and practice of the sounds, tones and soul expression of many Blues/Jazz/Rock singers. Black Music has always been his greatest aim. Engels Espiritos is self-taught and the pioneer to work with harmonicas in the city of Brasilia. He developed the first harmonica course with his own methodology, and was responsible for the first generation of professional harmonica players in town. He was also the first harmonica player to present shows of Afro-American Music in fusion to Brazilian music in the city. He is a researcher who tried to know deeply the harmonica in its origin, history and trajectory covering all of the most varied characteristics of this instrument. Since then she has performed and/or recorded with top Brazilian acts like Sergio Mendes, Airto Moreira, Oscar Castro-Neves, Rita Lee, Elba Ramalho, Sandy and Junior, Banda Cheiro de Amor, and also with George Duke, Latin Grammy nominee Alex Acuña and Justo Almario's Tolú, Grammy nominee "Latin Project", and Chill artist Praful, saxaphonist from Netherlands. After moving to Los Angeles in 1990, she started lending her voice to films and television for dubbing and "Voice-overs" while performing with The Rio Thing, Midnight Drums, 22-piece Orchestra Feijoada Completa, Sol & Mar, Viver Brasil Dance Company, Folk Ballet of Brasil, Badauê, Man and Machine, and many more. In 1996, she released her first CD "Ten Feet and the Sun" in the U.S. with Brasil Nuts band. In 1999 she released "Ginga" with Sambaguru, and in 2003 "Live" by Kufala Records. Her 4th CD with Sambaguru is called "Navegar ao Sol" by Moondo Records. In 2009 Sambaguru released "Tribo" that was on the Preliminary Nominating Ballot for the Grammy 2009. In 1998, Kátia started putting out a monthly newsletter, Brazilian Heart, to challenge her as a writer and "communicator". Brazilian Heart explores issues of culture, art and music following her personal whims and passions. She also wrote for Soul Brasil magazine and Brazil Today newspaper. DANIEL CARNEIRO - Composer, Musician, Singer http://danielcarneiro.com/ Guitarist, composer and singer, Daniel Carneiro was born in 1979. Originally from Brazil, Daniel started playing bass at the age of 13 while at the Curitiba conservatory of Brazilian popular music. Outside of the classroom Daniel performed at many of the local clubs in his hometown. At the age of 16 he started playing the guitar and also started writing his first songs. A few years later he relocated to Los Angeles, CA to study at Los Angeles Music Academy (LAMA) in Pasadena. Here he studied with Frank Gambale, Jeff Richman, Ross Bolton. After finishing his degree in guitar, he began performing his original compositions in the local LA circuit with his 7 piece band New Cycle. He is currently taking Jazz guitar lessons from Sid Jacobs. Daniel has also studied composition, conducting, harmony and orchestration at UCLA (film scoring program). He was very enthusiastic about film scoring from an early age, his music shifts from orchestral to acoustic. Daniel is a dynamic composer who brings a refreshing approach to each project, with considerable experience writing music for different media. Daniel released his first album Naquela Noite in 2007. Daniel’s main instrument is the acoustic nylon guitar. He also plays the bass, cavaquinho (brazilian small 4 string guitar) and various traditional Brazilian percussion instruments. SAMBALEZA DANCERS - Rio-Style Parade http://www.sambaleza.com Director Valeria Ruggieri joined SambaLá over 9 years ago when Doris, the SambaLá director gave her a crash course in samba and sent her off with the SambaLá performers group to Seoul, Korea for a show for 100,000 people at Kia Motor's world-wide launching of the "Rio" Car. She was the most photographed dancer in the group and from that day on, she was hooked on Samba. Since then, she has worked her way up in the ranks and has danced on Jay Leno and Nickelodeon with Will Smith and even helped one of the contestants and appeared on "Dancing with the Stars". She has worked her way from dancer, to Princesa da Bateria, Rainha da Bateria, and now Madrinha da Bateria. She teaches advanced samba dance and is creating special choreographies for the Street Carnaval. She also is an event planner and owner of RioBela Productions, and is vice-president of SambaLá Samba School, a non-profit organization. SAMBALÁ BATERIA - Rio-Style Parade http://bateria.sambala.org They say that the heartbeat of samba is the bateria or percussion unit. For SambaLá it is no different. Samba is infectious and has attracted many talented musicians to SambaLá. The SambaLá Bateria is led by Mestre Rodney D'Assis, Brazilian born-percussionist and musician. He has written and arranged the breaks for this year's Brazilian Street Carnaval. Other notable members of the SambaLá Bateria include head-repinique Jesse Kitten (original member of SambaLá), the Bahaiana Rhythm Director Pedro Ha, long-time member and contributor to the Bateria and its health Geoff Hunter (who has more samba instruments than anyone we know!), and Ali Lexa (rehearsal director). SAMBA 4 U - Carnaval Block (Bloco) http://www.samba4u.com/ Carnaval "bloco" is a group of people that walk, dance and party in a semi-organized way, all wearing the same costume, called "ABADA." The abada is a t-shirt printed with the logo of the bloco as well as of the sponsors. Sousa has extensive touring and teaching experience in Brazil, Europe, and in more than 120 cities in the United States, Australia, Malaysia, Colombia, Argentina, Chile, Mexico, Canada and Benin. He has toured with Viver Brasil as its guest musical director since 2007. José Ricardo has conducted percussion and dance workshops with Viver Brasil’s Bahia travel program since 1997. He was on the California Brazil Camp faculty this past summer 2012. NILDINHA FONSECA, from Salvador, Bahia holds the title of soloist with Brazil’s premier regional dance company, the Balé Folclórico da Bahia. She is responsible for training the company in modern dance techniques, Afro-Brazilian traditional and contemporary dance as well as conducting master classes when the company tours. She began her dance training at the well known, SESC School of Dance and Music under the tutelage of Raimundo B. dos Santos aka Mestre King. She holds a Bachelors’ degree in Dance from the Federal University of Bahia, has a certificate in the Silvestre technique, studied ballet with Jose Carlos Arandiba aka Zebrinha, studied African dance with Chuck Davis and Germaine Acogny and modern dance with Judith Jamison. Ms. Fonseca has extensive touring experience performing in Brazil, throughout Europe, in over 120 cities in the United States, Australia, Mexico and Canada. She has performed as a guest artist with Viver Brasil since 2009.
