----------Class Descriptions----------
Friday, July 12
6:30 - 8:00 pm: Opening the Body (Technique for Both Roles)
In this class we will repeal and replace old “beginner information” concerning the movement of the legs in the walk, pivots, ochos and giros with more advanced technique to allow more freedom in the legs and body, facilitating boleos, ganchos, and other leg-play.
*All-levels
Saturday, July 13
12:00 - 1:30 pm: Dancing with Dialogue
Dialogue is what makes tango tango. Here we look at where, when and how to let the follower play, as well as how to recognize and what to do with the leader’s invitation (adornments & musicality). We will explore some of the most common scenarios, including paradas, planeos, calecitas, and cross-body movement.
*All-levels
Saturday, July 13
1:45 - 3:15 pm: Suspension
Bring conversation and expression into the dance by incorporating quality of movement. Here we will explore classic and modern suspended milonguero movements to invigorate our musicality with intensity. (“Dancing with Dialogue” highly recommended before taking this class).
*INT-PDA (pretty damn advanced) Beginners beware!
Saturday July 13
3:30 - 5:00 pm: Sacada! 2.0
By popular demand… Sacadas are some of the most widely-used steps in Tango Salon and are essential in building a wider vocabulary. We will explore how to construct different sacada sequences, including consecutive sacadas in the giro from close contact by sliding and rolling.
*INT+
Sunday, July 14
2:00 - 3:30 pm: Not Your Grandma’s Volcadas
Despite the tango elite's ban on volcadas, we will bring this controversial and sensuous movement back with elegance, composure, style, and modern application. (“Suspension” highly recommended before taking this class)
*Challenging
Sunday, July 14
3:45 - 5:15 pm: MicroTango
Building upon our overall theme of receptivity in the connection, this class focuses on creative improvisation, phraseology, and space management. We will use the confines of the musical phrase of tango, vals, or milonga to provoke creative outcomes while adhering to the space constraints of a crowded milonga.
*All-levels
Monday, July 15
7:30 - 9:00 pm: Make the Walk Great Again (Technique Class)
The walk—the quintessential defining movement of Tango. Everything about the dance is contained within, so let’s make it great! In this technique class we will practice solo as well as in couples. We will do drills, talk posture, weight placement, grounding, different pisadas, and musicality.
*All-levels
