----------Class Descriptions----------
Friday, January 4
6:30 - 8:00 pm: The Art of Embracing
Our goal is to allow our embrace to change and flow according the present moment, emotion, and music. Here we shift our perspective on the tango embrace from that of a static object “el abrazo” to that of a continuous action of embracing. In addition, we will work on seamless transitions in and out of close-embrace and figures that necessitate these adjustments.
*All-levels
Saturday, January 5
12:00 - 1:30 pm: Las Caderas
This is a lead/follow technique class in which we continue to build our tactile sensitivity and precision in communicating and moving together. Furthering our previous work on Grounding, we will now focus on leading and following from the hips, this time with an emphasis on rotations. With this technique one can find superhuman strength!
*All-levels
Saturday, January 5
1:45 - 3:15 pm: Sacada!
Sacadas are some of the most widely-used steps in Tango Salon and are essential in building a wider vocabulary. By the end of this class you will not only understand how a sacada works, but will be able to explore the many possible combinations, as well as execute sacadas in the giro from a close embrace by sliding and rolling.
*INT+
Saturday, January 5
3:30 - 5:00 pm: E = mc^tango
Let’s look at how to harness powerful dynamics contained in small spaces. By implementing advanced navigation techniques for the crowded dance floor, we can still respect the dancers around us without holding back, even when blasting D’Arienzo.
*INT-PDA (pretty damn advanced) Beginners beware!
Sunday, January 6
2:00 - 3:30 pm: Colgadas
The long-lost art of colgadas… The only thing that can stop a bad guy with a colgada is a good guy with a colgada. Proper handling, stance, and safety for colgadas.
*Challenging
Sunday, January 6
3:45 - 5:15 pm: Milonga & Cousins
Building from our previous work during the summer intensive, we will review the fundamental qualities of Milonga and make a comparative analysis with Tango and Vals. To better understand how each genre changes the structure, flow, and cadence of the dance, we will take particular figures and show how they might be danced differently in each case.
*All-levels
Monday, January 7
7:30 - 9:00 pm: Make the Walk Great Again (Technique Class)
The walk—the quintessential defining movement of Tango. Everything about the dance is contained within, so let’s make it great! In this technique class we will practice solo as well as in couples. We will do drills, talk posture, weight placement, grounding, different pisadas, and musicality.
*All-levels
